SUMMARY:Quilting Circle with Michelle Branes
DESCRIPTION:Join the Quilting Circle Workshop at the Freedmen’s Town Visitor Center. Led by Michelle Barnes\, Executive Director of Community Artists’ Collective\, this workshop introduces the quilting process beginning with the classic nine-patch block design. We are excited to continue this partnership and bring back the quilting workshops as we kick off our 2026 programming. \nInstruction will focus on hand sewing (hand piecing) techniques\, with a sewing machine available so participants can experience the difference between hand and machine stitching. Fabrics and supplies will be provided\, though participants are welcome to bring their own fabrics to incorporate into their design or to share with the group. Participants are also encouraged to discuss and receive advice on projects they may already have in mind. \nWithin the two-hour timeframe\, participants will complete at least one nine-inch block and leave with guidance on how to expand or finish their project independently. \nThis workshop is open to beginners\, youth and adults\, as well as those looking to deepen or further develop their quilting practice.. \nThis workshop is in partnership with Houston Freedmen’s Town Conservancy and Community Artists’ Collective.
