Book Signing with Dr. Will Guzman

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Will Guzmán back to the Freedmen’s Town Visitor Center! On May 21, join us for an evening book signing featuring his latest works: The Hill We Climbed: Prairie View A&M University (2026) and Justice on “The Hill”: A History of Activism at Prairie View A&M University (2026).
Dr. Guzmán’s scholarship traces the depth of Black political life and activism across generations. Welcoming him back to Freedmen’s Town—Houston’s first and oldest Black neighborhood, established shortly after Juneteenth—grounds this conversation in a place shaped by the very histories he studies.
Author of Civil Rights in the Texas Borderlands and Emmett J. Scott: Power Broker of the Tuskegee Machine, Dr. Guzmán has taught at Prairie View A&M University, Florida A&M University, and now serves as Assistant Vice Chancellor at North Carolina Central University.
