Porch Talks: Public Art in Black Spaces

Join us for Public Art in Black Spaces, a lively Porch Talk discussion on “The Meditative Space: Barbara Jordan Monument,” completed in August 2023 by Jamal Cyrus and located outside Freedmen’s Town Gregory School, the first public education center for Black children in Houston. ⁠ ⁠ Houston-based artist Jamal Cyrus will share his inspiration for the artwork and Houston Sun Founder, Dorris Ellis-Robinson will provide insight into Barbara Jordan’s life and legacy within Freedmen’s Town, with enriching perspectives from moderator Ryan Dennis, Associate Curator at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston.⁠ ⁠
