Return of the Historic Bricks
October 12 @ 9:30 am - 1:00 pm
On Monday, October 12, the historic Freedmen’s Town bricks will return to the neighborhood they helped build. The Brick Homecoming is part of Rebirth in Action, HFTCxCAMH multi‑year preservation initiative dedicated to restoring, protecting, and reconnecting the historic fabric of Freedmen’s Town with the community. These bricks are more than infrastructure — they hold the physical history of a neighborhood built by formerly enslaved Black Houstonians after Emancipation.
Now, they’re coming home.
Celebrate this moment in community with us as we welcome the foundation that Freedmen’s Town was built on, with a program, processional, libation ceremony, and reception.
