SPACE FOR US Art Exhibition + Workshop w/ Aris Kian Brown

June 19 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Time: 1:30 – 2:30PM

Step into the future of freedom with Aris Kian Brown, Houston’s 2023–2025 Poet Laureate and a nationally recognized spoken word artist. Aris’s work merges poetics with protest, imagination with activism making her a powerful voice in the lineage of cultural preservation and transformation.

Her powerful exhibition, “SPACE FOR US: Afrofuturism and the Poetic Imagination,” is currently on view inside the historic Row House gallery next door to the HFTC Visitor Center. The multidisciplinary show weaves archival materials, poetry, and interviews with Black community leaders into a poetic call to action imagining the liberated Houston we all deserve.

Join Aris for a live workshop inside the gallery, where she’ll share the vision behind the work and invite attendees into a dialogue around language, legacy, and liberation.

*The exhibit is open for self-guided exploration throughout the day, but space for the workshop is limited.
