Join us as we pay heartfelt tribute to two visionary champions whose advocacy helped preserve and elevate Freedmen’s Town:

• Congressman Sylvester Turner, former Houston mayor and U.S. Representative, who led the charge to establish Freedmen’s Town as the city’s first Heritage District and guided its revitalization across multiple administrations.
• Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, who served Houston for nearly 30 years, relentlessly fighting for historic preservation, human rights, racial and economic justice, and whose leadership paved the way for national recognition of our shared legacy.
