Visitor Center Tours (Tuesday-Saturday)
The Freedmen’s Town Visitor Center, home to the Houston Freedmen’s Town Conservancy, stands as the cultural premier destination for heritage tourism, arts and cultural programming, and special events in Freedmen’s Town. The Visitor Center encompasses a welcome Center and two-row house galleries that feature exhibitions that attract a diverse visitor base and offer educational programs, cultural activations, and special events through collaborative community partnerships.
Visitor Center Tour | 1 hour: Includes a tour of the visitor center, row house galleries and the African American History Research Center at the Gregory School. We encourage you to check out our upcoming events when planning your visit!

Guided Neighborhood Walking Tours (Saturdays)
Brick Street Tour | 45 minutes: See historic homes, churches, and walk the historic brick streets paved by the emancipated leaders of Freedmen’s Town on a guided tour.
Fees: Adults $25 | Senior 65+ $20 | Kids Under 12 $15
Founders Tour | 1.5 hours: See the 20 historic sites that are instrumental to the foundation of Freedmen’s Town on a guided tour.

Wiley Park Tour | 1.5 hours: See the Freedmen’s Town community gathering space that hosts community and family celebrations, Holidays and youth events on a guided tour.

Guided Bike Tours (Saturdays)
Freedmen’s Town Tour (Beginner) | 1.5 hours: Ride within Freedmen’s Town and experience all of its richness on two wheels, visit historic churches and homes, the historic brick streets as well as other key sites within the community led on a bike tour.

Freedmen’s Town Tour (Intermediate) | 2 hours: Ride within Freedmen’s Town and experience all of its richness on two wheels, visit historic churches and homes, the historic brick streets as well as other key sites within the community led on a bike tour.

Freedmen’s Town Tour (Advanced) | 2+ hours: Ride within Freedmen’s Town and experience all of its richness on two wheels, visit historic churches and homes, the historic brick streets as well as other key sites within the community led on a bike tour.

Are there a minimum number of guests required for a guided neighborhood walking tour? No.
What should I bring on a walking tour? We suggest wearing weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes and bringing a water bottle to stay hydrated. Be sure to check the weather before your visit!
Which tours are kid-friendly? The Visitor Center Tour is suitable for all ages. However, please note that the walking and bike tours are longer and do not provide access to bathrooms. Additionally, many parts of Freedmens Town have uneven pavements as is typical of historic districts.
Can I bring a pet to the tours? No, but you are welcome to bring a service animal.
Are there a minimum number of guests required for a guided bike tour? Yes, there is a minimum number of guests required for a guided bike tour. If the minimum number is not met, you will be notified in advance that the tour has been canceled.
